Releasing its fourth quarter results, Ocado, the online grocery retailer has reported an increase of 13.1% in gross sales.

Also, average orders per week grew 17.6% to 241,000 from last year in the 16 weeks to 27th November, as well as the average basket size rising 2.9% due to the popularity of the retailers smart pass which leads customers to shop for less but more often.

Ocado also revealed that for the entire year, it had growth of 13.6% year-on-year.

Tim Steiner, chief executive, said: "We are very pleased with the financial performance achieved this year.”

"During the period, we were also pleased to announce that we have commenced operations at our Andover CFC. This is the first of our CFCs to use our new proprietary infrastructure equipment solution and software, which will support the ongoing growth of our business."
