It has been reported that Amazon’s web services division has created sales of $1.57 billion (£1.04 billion) in the first quarter of 2015 and that it is profitable.

The rise in sales at the cloud computing division was much bigger than expected with revenues rising by 15% to $22.7 billion, helped by rising sales in North America, Amazon’s largest market.

Companies involved with the Amazon Web Service include Netflix, Samsung, Dropbox, Spotify and even hosts platforms for the CIA.

Michael Pachter, from Wedbush Securities said: "I think most of us believed that the business was breakeven at best, and it is surprising that it generates such a significant portion of profit."

"The stock is up because it is clear that if that business scales, Amazon can be immensely profitable," he added.
