Amazon has launched a one-hour delivery option on over 10,000 items to its London-based Prime members.

The service was previously only available in the US, but has been extended to shoppers in certain areas of the capital who can have a variety of goods, including food, drink and other essentials, delivered to their home within 60 minutes.

Christopher North, MD for Amazon UK said, "Millions of customers across London can use the Prime Now app today and discover over ten thousand items for one-hour delivery, or select a free two-hour, same-day delivery slot."

"This is just the beginning. London is our first Prime Now city in the UK and we are already working on making Prime Now available in more postcodes in London and beyond."

The one-hour delivery service, otherwise known as ‘Prime Now’, is likely to reach all of London and more UK cities by the end of 2015. One-hour deliveries are priced at £6.99 and like the popular Uber app, drivers can also be tracked on the Prime Now app.

The service is Amazon’s latest in efforts to convert customers into paying members of its annual Prime subscription service.
