Shirt seller Charles Tyrwhitt has seen sales of its white shirts increase 50% year-on-year in 2009, from 220,000 to 330,000.
The company, which retails in the US, Germany and Britain, was established in 1986 by founder Nick Wheeler. He said that the biggest sales growth came from UK sales, while the US market struggled at the end of 2008.
"Back in September and October last year, our sales in the US dropped off a cliff" the company said in a statement. "At that time, the US banking sector was rocked by the fall of Lehman Brothers. Ironically, Charles Tyrwhitt occupies a retail store in what was the Lehman Brothers Building in Manhattan".
