QVC has reported growing sales, driven by the move from analogue to digital in the UK. The TV shopping giant employs 1,385 staff at its Knowsley HQ, which last year handled 15.1 million phone calls and sent out 13.6 million items.

In a selective release of its 2009 figures, the US-owned group reported annual net sales up by 2.3% to £367.9 million compared with £359.7 million. Fourth quarter net sales rose by 5.9% from £105.9 million in 2008 to £112.2 million last year.

The company did not disclose profit details but in the most recent accounts filed at Companies House for the year to 2008, pre-tax profits totalled £19.92 million compared with £27.15 million in 2007.
Dermot Boyd, QVC UK chief executive, said: "The retail environment was certainly challenging in the first half of 2009. However, our focus on outstanding customer service led to a growth in sales from our active customer base and a dramatic reduction in customer service calls. The outcome was that the second half exceeded our expectations".
