MPs have voted unanimously in favour of stripping Sir Philip Green of his knighthood following the infamous sale and collapse of BHS.

The vote is not legally binding, but as a symbolic gesture it is a damming indictment of Sir Philip. Any final decision will be taken by the Honours Forfeiture Committee and there is no suggestion at the moment that this is going to happen.

During the three-hour debate, Labour's David Winnick branded Sir Philip "a billionaire spiv” who “shamed British capitalism". Frank Field, chairman of the Work and Pensions committee, said that "literally nothing happened in BHS or Arcadia without Sir Philip knowing directly". Referring to the black hole in the company’s pension fund, he added "We are dealing with a man who has huge sums in wealth. He could have dealt with the pensions problem and walked away smelling of roses.”

In the meantime, BHS.com which was launched from the ashes of its high street namesake has rolled out its second Christmas range, which includes Christmas hampers, gifts and home fragrances.
