New research has shown ASOS comes at the top of the list for organic Google searches for men and women’s fashion.

The search, done by MediaVision, showed that ASOS beat 2000 popular search terms including high street department stores such as Debenhams, House of Fraser and John Lewis, as well as other fashion retailers including Marks and Spencer, Next and Amazon.

Being the first of its kind, the research is based on a number of various metrics including domain authority, deeper offsite elements, title tagging and information architecture.

Louis Venter, MediaVision chief executive, said: “Because the fashion sector is incredibly crowded, a cost-effective new customer acquisition strategy was key to growth. One of the best channels to deliver this is through SEO as paid media is getting increasingly expensive year on year and most other channels target existing and not new customers. This report shows the big department stores are consistently winning however it also shows that brands that invest well in SEO are achieving great results and winning market share."
