It has been reported that with less promotions on offer outside of the Black Friday period compared with 2015, fashion and home sales were affected.

Figures show that in the fashion sector, sales decreased 2.3% and home sales dropped 1.4%. However, furniture sales rose 7.7% as shoppers purchased sofa beds, pillows and inflatable beds for Christmas guests.

Elsewhere, home technology and the electrical departments continued to benefit from Black Friday offers, helping sales increase 14.9%.Items that performed the best included audio and connected home products, with Apple, Samsung and Sonos among the bestselling brands.

The department store also commented that its newly opened Nespresso boutiques in John Lewis Kingston and Peter Jones have started well with sales in both coffee machines and coffee capsules.

Online trade director at John Lewis, Mark Felix, said: “This week, My John Lewis customer events and a Double Points promotion on Partnership Card, means there are plenty of reasons for customers to shop.”
