Sainsbury's, the massive supermarket retailer, has revealed they will be looking to fill 15,000 Christmas jobs in 2011.
Although not as big as the recruitment drive in 2009 when the company advertised 20,000 Christmas positions, it still represents a significant increase on the 14,000 Sainsbury's jobs they filled last Christmas.
Sainsbury's employ around 150,000 full and part time staff in the UK, but every Christmas their numbers swell in order to get them through the hectic festive holidays. Many people who take up Christmas work at Sainsbury's go on to start a full time career with the company.
Of the 14,000 staff taken on by Sainsbury's in 2010, over 2,000 took up permanent jobs with the retailer.
Last year, the temporary Christmas staff helped Sainsbury's till up 24 million transactions in the busiest week of the Christmas holidays.
Retail human resources director at Sainsbury's, Helen Webb, spoke of the sort of candidates they were seeking out to fill their Christmas jobs in 2011. "We are looking for passionate, motivated individuals who love working as part of a team. Retail is a fantastic industry to work in and there really is no better time to be in store than at Christmas," said Ms Webb.
With close to a thousand stores throughout the UK, there is a very good chance that there will be Christmas vacancies at a Sainsbury's not too far from you. Positions on offer include check out operatives, customer service staff and delivery workers.
