Primark and Matalan in legal battle

21 August 2006 09:24

Primark is reported to have commenced legal proceedings against rival chain Matalan for allegedly copying some of its products. The dispute centres upon a range of boys hooded tops bearing the slogan 'rebel attitude' sold by Matalan. Primark is understood to be claiming that since its own childrenswear ranges have been marketed using the term 'rebel'  for some time it has sole rights to using the term for such a purpose. It is also believed to be demanding that Matalan destroys all remaining merchandising bearing the 'rebel attitude' slogan as it will be seeking damages. Thus far Matalan has refused to withdraw the items.
