Harvey Nichols withdraws foie gras ahead of protests
03 August 2007 09:22
Luxury department store Harvey Nichols is to stop the sale of foie gras ahead of a planned national protest from animal rights group Viva! The company said that it would not be re-stocking French foie gras due to "commercial" reasons once current in-store supplies run out. Harvey Nichols is the latest chain in a series of companies that refuse to stock the food including Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, Marks & Spencer, Makro and the Co-op. Viva! had been planning nationwide action against Harvey Nichols over the Christmas shopping season in protest at the way foie gras is produced.
