Metro CEO to depart in October

Metro Group, owners of the UK’s Makro brand, has announced that CEO Dr Hans-Joachim Körber is to leave the company on October 31st. Since his appointment as CEO in 1999, Dr Körber, who is also chairman of the management board, has led Metro to become the third largest retailer in the world. In a statement, Metro said: "Thanks to his efforts the Metro Group can look back on a track-record which is unparalleled in its success. In addition, Dr. Körber has laid the foundations for a continuing, stable, upward trend in the core divisions. He has set the company on course for a successful future. The entire company owes Dr. Körber a debt of unreserved gratitude". The company’s personnel and nominations committee has recommended that the company appoint Dr Eckhard Cordes, currently chairman of the supervisory board, to succeed Dr Körber.
