Argos strike "rock solid" say union leaders

18 July 2008 09:21

Union leaders have called a strike by workers at four Argos distribution centres "rock solid". Workers are protesting against a 4% pay offer and plan another two strikes nearer the end of the month.
National officer for the Unite union Jennie Formby said: "The solid support for this strike is a clear message to Argos that our members are not prepared to accept a pay offer that is essentially a pay cut. The strength of the turnout is a clear indication that Argos faces disruption to its customer services."
Argos said it was disappointed that the strike was going ahead, claiming that their offer was good given the economic climate. The company added that thousands of other Argos staff, including managers, had accepted wage rises of below 4%.
