Graduate Fashion Week has launched a new project in conjunction with its leading sponsors to offer graduates from one of the GFW 2009 courses a short-term contract to work on a project when they graduate.
River Island, Mulberry, John Lewis, The Pentland Group, ASOS, Peacocks and British Elle Magazine will each be offering a graduate from one of the GFW 2009 courses a work experience placement as part of The Protégé Project.
Terry Mansfield, chairman of GFW, said: "With the current economic climate and general feeling of social unease about the future of our workforces, it was vital that Graduate Fashion Week tackled the problems facing tomorrow's creative's head on, with a long term, tangible strategy. I truly believe we have a duty to do everything we can to channel today's skills into real jobs ensuring that the world's best graduate talent is utilised in a way to benefit not only the graduate, but also the UK's creative economy.
"This short term contract would give a graduate the most invaluable work experience and gives them something really tangible when moving on to find a full time job. I passionately believe that The Protégé Project is the way forward, and as more Hero companies come on board, the more optimistic we can be about the future of the creative industries."
