Sainsbury’s exec picks up Woman of the Year award

Gwyn Burr, customer services director at Sainsbury's has been named Woman of the Year at an awards ceremony celebrating the achievements of women in the retail sector.
Ms Burr, from Yorkshire, was also nominated in the Leader of the Year category at the Specsavers everywoman in retail awards 2009 held at the Marriott hotel in London's Grosvenor Square last night. The awards, now in their second year, featured speakers from across the industry who have acted as inspiration to other women, including Jane Shepherdson of Whistles, Sharon O'Connor of Oasis and Julia Reynolds of Figleaves.
Other winners included: Donna Hunter from the Mid-Counties Co-operative for Store Manager of the Year; Holly Tucker & Sophie Cornish, founders of notonthehighstreet.com for Entrepreneur of the year; Helen Humphrey, vice president national operations, of McDonald's Restaurants for Inspiration of the Year; Kim Roberts, head of retail HR at Morrison's, for Hidden Talent of the Year; Leah Boothe, operations manager, McDonald's Restaurants for the Star of the Future award; Suzanne Marshall, area manager for Argos, for Leader of the Year and Wendy Hallett, founder of Hallett retail, for Innovator of the Year.
