ASOS continues strong growth

ASOS, the UK's leading online fashion store, has sees sales rocket once again in the six months to September 30th, further demonstrating the resilience of the brand to the recession. In the period, sales at the company rose 47%, with 1.2 million active customers at present compared to 890,000 this time last year. International sales saw an increase of 110% and the company said that it viewed the outlook for the full year with confidence.

At the ASOS AGM today, Lord Waheed Alli, chairman, will say: "I am pleased to report another strong first half performance for ASOS. Sales for the six months to 30 September are 47% ahead of the comparable period last year with International sales increasing by over 110%, representing around 25% of total sales for the period. 

"The results to date are in line with management's expectations. We expect the first half outcome to be marginally ahead of the prior year and continue to view the outlook for the full year with confidence. 

"As at 30 September 2009, ASOS has 1.2m active customers, up from 890,000 at the same point last year. 

"Highlights from the period include; the introduction of Gap and Mango, the launch of Menswear into our Outlet offer and the introduction of 'free returns' for all our UK customers.  Additionally, we added a further 56 countries to our International shipping list taking the total to 114 compared to 58 at the time we issued our full year results. We also enhanced our delivery options for International customers, introducing fixed rate and express shipping options".
