ASOS confident after strong Christmas

In a trading update covering the Christmas period, online retailer ASOS said that sales were up 30% year-on-year in the five weeks to January 3rd. The board added that trading was in line with expectations, with 1.5 million active customers at January 17th, a 25% increase on last year.
In addition, sales were up 38% year-on-year for the 42 weeks to January 17th, comprising a 25% rise in UK sales and an increase of 102% in international sales.
Nick Robertson, chief executive of ASOS, said: "I am pleased to report another excellent Christmas for ASOS. Sales and margin were both strong and we exited the Christmas period with a clean stock position. We continue to trade in line with the board's expectation and remain confident for the outcome for the full year".
