M and M Direct, Britain's second-largest online fashion retailer after ASOS, is preparing to enter the German market with a German language website after reporting strong Christmas trading. Sales soared by 21% in the 10 weeks to January 3rd, with internet orders up by 30% to more than 800,000 comprising 2.7 million items.
Chief executive Steve Robinson, a former chief executive of Tesco Direct, said: "International will be an increasing part of the business. But we also want to keep growing the core and look for more white-label opportunities".
In June, the e-tailer launched a European website for customers in Germany, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Monaco and Republic of Ireland in local currencies.
M and M Direct has a turnover of just under £100 million and is the sixth most visited clothing website in Britain. It is owned by private equity group TA Associates, which acquired it from ECI Partners and its founders in 2007.
