Starbucks' UK division saw like-for-like sales growth of 5% in the year to October 3rd 2010 as customers embraced new products.

Total sales increased 2% to £396 million according to the latest accounts filed at Companies House.

Speaking to The Guardian, UK managing director Darcy Wilson-Rymer said: "Our sales are still growing despite tough conditions on the high street and our financial position continues to improve."

He added that the chain's more British menu, which includes porridge, muffins and bacon butties, had been well received.

Starbucks UK has invested £24 million revamping 100 stores during the year and also opened its first motorway outlets.

Another 20 flagship sites will be revamped before the London Olympics.

In addition, the chain is experimenting with new store formats, including a dozen 'drive-thrus' which are due to open this year.

Mr Wilson-Rymer said that the positive sales trend had continued in the current financial year and it expected to open new stores "at a measured pace."

Starbucks currently operates 717 stores.
