JD Sports Fashion has announced a rise in like-for-like sales in its core UK and Ireland operations of 1.6% for the five weeks ended January 7th.
The company added that its recent acquisition of the loss-making Blacks Leisure chain would lead to a small reduction in earnings in the current year, although the board added that year-end results would be "in the range of current expectations".The company added that it had been able to maintain gross profit margins broadly in line with the prior year.
Peter Cowgill, executive chairman, commented: "I would like to thank all our staff who through their efforts and commitment in this busy trading period, have helped deliver this creditable result."
