Axi has reported that more than 60% of its clients now actively trade on the MetaTrader 5 (MT5) platform.
The move reflects the continued shift away from MetaTrader 4 (MT4) as traders and brokers adopt MT5. The platform is seen as offering enhanced functionality, improved execution capabilities and support for a broader range of assets.
Axi is also expanding its use of technology within the MetaQuotes ecosystem. The broker has deployed Ultency, an order-matching engine designed for MT5 brokers.
The investment points to a wider trend across the industry, with firms focusing on infrastructure that can support greater efficiency, scalability and execution quality.
MT5 adoption continues to grow
The shift towards MT5 is not limited to one broker.
Industry data shows that MT5 overtook MT4 last year, accounting for 62% of combined MT4 and MT5 CFD trading volumes in the third quarter of 2025.
The change represents a major turnaround from the previous year, when MT4 still accounted for around two-thirds of total trading activity.
The figures highlight how quickly the market is moving towards newer trading technology. As more brokers and traders adopt MT5, investment in platforms and supporting infrastructure continues to increase.
RHR believes the industry's move to MT5 is now firmly established. Brokers that embrace the platform are likely to be better placed to meet changing client needs and support future growth.
What this means for hiring. This story is most relevant for technology, product and trading platform roles, as brokers continue investing in MT5 and supporting infrastructure. Firms upgrading systems and deploying new technology may need people who can support platform development, integration and operational performance.
