Binance has announced that its tokenised equities product, bStocks, has surpassed $1 billion in assets. The company said it reached the milestone faster than any other tokenised equity offering.
The growth has been supported by more than $6 billion in two-way conversions between tokenised assets and the underlying shares. According to Binance, this reflects growing demand for bringing traditional investments into blockchain-based markets.
Since launching on 11 June, bStocks have generated more than $40 billion in cumulative trading volume. The range of available investments has also expanded from five securities to nearly 100 stocks and ETFs.
Binance has also widened access to traditional markets through its regulated brokerage infrastructure. Eligible clients can now trade more than 7,000 US stocks and ETFs, helping connect conventional investing with digital asset markets.
A key feature of bStocks is the ability to convert eligible stock holdings into blockchain-based tokens on a 1:1 basis. Investors can also convert them back into conventional stock positions without conversion fees.
Each token is backed by the underlying security held with a custodian. However, the token represents a beneficial interest in the asset rather than direct ownership of the share itself.
The growth of bStocks reflects a broader move towards tokenisation in financial markets. As the technology develops, firms are looking at ways to make traditional financial assets more accessible and easier to move between conventional and blockchain-based systems.
What this means for hiring. Growth in tokenised assets and regulated brokerage services could increase demand for technology, product and compliance roles that support tokenisation and access to traditional markets. The expansion of bStocks and broader stock and ETF trading services may also create opportunities in operations and business development functions.
