Growth, Innovation and Experience: Retailers Continue to Invest in the Future
If there’s one theme that stands out across the latest retail and hospitality headlines, it’s confidence.
From international expansion and strategic partnerships to immersive store concepts and omnichannel growth, brands are continuing to invest in new markets, customer experiences and fresh ways to connect with consumers. At a time when headlines can often focus on challenges, it’s encouraging to see so many businesses backing growth and innovation.
One great example is Oliver Bonas, which has strengthened its presence in Ireland with the opening of its second store at Dundrum Town Centre in Dublin. Building on the success of its first Irish location, the new store showcases the brand’s distinctive mix of fashion, accessories, jewellery, homeware and gifting. It’s another example of how retailers are carefully selecting locations that align with both their brand and customer demographics, creating spaces that allow shoppers to fully engage with the product and experience.
International expansion is also firmly on the agenda for JD Sports, which has announced plans to enter Mexico through a long-term franchise partnership with Grupo Axo. The move will see more than 140 JD locations operating in the market from 2027, creating a significant presence in one of the world's fastest-growing retail economies. With Mexico's young population, expanding ecommerce sector and growing activewear market, the partnership demonstrates how global brands are identifying opportunities in emerging consumer markets while working alongside experienced local operators to accelerate growth.
Closer to home, omnichannel retailing continues to evolve. The Cotswold Company has partnered with Marks & Spencer to launch a furniture collection available through the M&S platform, combining The Cotswold Company's specialist delivery expertise with M&S's extensive customer reach. It's a strong example of how collaboration between complementary brands can help businesses access new audiences while creating a seamless shopping experience for customers. The boundaries between channels continue to blur, and retailers that make shopping easier and more convenient are reaping the rewards.
Meanwhile, experiential retail remains a major focus. Wed2b has unveiled its largest-ever store at London's Royal Victoria Dock, spanning 10,000 square feet and housing 1,500 wedding dresses. Beyond the scale, what makes this opening particularly interesting is its emphasis on experience. Features such as virtual dress try-ons, enhanced fitting experiences and increased personalisation show how retailers are using technology and space to create memorable customer journeys. In categories driven by emotion and significant life moments, the experience can be every bit as important as the product itself.
The Entertainer is another retailer investing in physical retail, opening a new store at Trafford Centre after patiently waiting almost a decade for the right location. Offering more than 3,000 toys, games and collectibles, the opening reflects continued confidence in destination shopping and highlights the importance of bringing specialist retail categories into high-footfall centres. As consumers increasingly seek experiences alongside transactions, category-leading operators remain an important part of creating vibrant retail destinations.
What links all these stories together is a shared commitment to growth. Whether it's opening stores in new countries, strengthening omnichannel strategies, investing in experiential concepts, or building strategic partnerships, retailers are continuing to adapt to changing consumer expectations while remaining ambitious for the future.
For those of us working across retail and hospitality, it's a positive reminder that despite economic pressures and shifting consumer behaviours, there are still significant opportunities for businesses willing to innovate, invest and evolve. The brands making headlines today are doing exactly that, and it will be fascinating to see where that momentum takes them next.
