Gap has announced that it will be launching in India, with the opening of 40 stores across the country in partnership with one of India’s largest textile companies.

The first two outlets will be in India’s largest cities Mumbai and the capital Delhi.

“More than half of India’s population is under 25 and they are actively embracing fashion in today’s retail environment,” Ismail Seyis, vice president of Gap global franchise, commented. “We are thrilled to know that our brand awareness is very high and there is a deep affinity for Gap in India. We look forward to gaining a deeper understanding of the marketplace and consumer needs to create the best possible Gap brand experience for the local consumers.”
