Supermarket Sainsbury’s has said that it will be cutting the number of reward points it offers by half from April 11th next year, instigating a backlash from customers.

Sainsbury’s will offer just one point per pound spent either in store or online and will cease to offer shoppers a point for every bag they reuse.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “We are changing the way customers earn Nectar points and launching more high-value bonus events, like ‘Swipe to Win’, 10xpoints on fuel and adding more categories to our Christmas ‘Double Up’ event so that customers can make their points go even further.”
