CMC Markets has introduced a read‑only integration that lets UK clients connect their CFD accounts to ChatGPT and access balances, positions, orders and price information through natural language queries. Because the connection cannot place, amend or cancel trades or move funds. It positions the firm at the more cautious end of a rapidly expanding field. FM Intelligence counted at least ten brokers and platform vendors that opened live client accounts to AI agents in the first half of 2026, with several allowing order drafting or execution. CMC’s setup supports CFD accounts only, excludes spread betting for now, and provides delayed pricing where real‑time data isn’t available.
The company framed the launch as part of its broader investment in AI and digital infrastructure. Sample prompts include checking pending orders or summarising account value, reflecting a focus on convenience rather than automation. CMC has been signalling a larger technology roadmap since outlining its three‑phase “super app” strategy last November, and the new integration fits neatly into that direction. Ross Gustafson, head of cloud at CMC Markets, said the feature “provides a strong foundation for developing richer, more intelligent client experiences over time.”
Regulation remains a moving target. The Financial Conduct Authority has not yet issued rules specifically governing AI agents connected to client accounts. Its July review on how AI will reshape retail financial services by 2030. There are suggestions that existing frameworks, particularly the Consumer Duty and the Senior Managers Regime may serve as the primary guardrails as the industry experiments with new interfaces and capabilities.
