Build-A-Bear Workshop created an offer for UK customers. The offer was a chance to buy any bear, which can cost up to £52, for the price of their child's age.
This offer left shoppers with young children queuing for as long as eight hours and due to the chaos. They had to cancel the event.
The company said the response had been "overwhelming and unprecedented".
Many of the company's stores - including Sheffield's Meadowhall shopping centre, Birmingham's Bullring, Telford and Basingstoke - had to shut for the rest of the day following demand.
