Finding your new role at a job fair

When it comes to finding a new role, would attending a job fair be something you would consider? If not, why not? We may be biased (we host our very own retail and hospitality specific job fairs twice a year), but we think you should — and here’s why:

Don’t get lost in the crowd. At a job fair you might be in a literal crowd at times, but compared to online applications and sending off your CV into what feels like a black hole, job fairs really do give you that chance to get face to face with the decision makers. Impress on the day and we’re sure you’ll get that interview.

The human touch. Again, with online methods you send your CV and hope for the best. Job fairs give you the opportunity to have actual conversations with recruiters. There’s no need to try and write an appealing cover letter and hope that it is read. Now is the time to tell them for yourself!

Is the company right for you? Job fairs give the recruiters opportunities to find candidates, but they also give you the chance to meet with up to 50 companies in one room. This is a rare opportunity for you to really get to know different brands and how they work. You may have a dream company in mind but find that, after speaking with them, the culture/working hours/salaries aren’t right for you. On the other hand, there may be companies you may have never considered that could be your perfect match.

Career advice. Even if you’re not looking for a new role, what better place to get advice than at a job fair with hundreds of professionals to help you? Are you a manager looking to step up in your current role? Why not use this opportunity to see how other companies promote internally? Many job fairs have recruitment consultancies there that offer free career advice.

Networking. Finally, job fairs are a great place to meet likeminded people and grow your network. You may not be looking for a role now but how prepared will you feel when the time comes to move on and you’ve already met loads of recruiters to approach again?

Like we said, we may be biased, but we think job fairs are worth a visit. And, if you do too, our next job fair will be on the 19th & 20th September 2024 at the Royal National Hotel in Russell Square, London. Click here for more information: https://www.retailappointment.co.uk/live
