Staples invented the office superstore concept in 1986 and is headquartered outside Boston.

The success story of Staples in Europe began in 1992 with Staples Inc purchasing a 48% share in Maxi-Papier in Germany and at the same time entering in to a joint venture with Kingfisher plc in the UK. Staples International was born in 1993 the UK opened its first store in Swansea. Since then Staples has opened 135 stores in the UK and today we're still growing at a rate of 5 stores per year and is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Staples Incorporated. The headquarters of Staples UK Stores is based in High Wycombe.
