John Lewis suffered a sales decline of 8.3% year-on-year last week due to unusually mild weather for this time of year, and also the fact that it was price matching a competitor this time last year.

Sales of women’s accessories were up by 11% in the week due to strong performance from watches and shoes.

Electrical and home technology sale were down by 2.8% despite a rise in the mobile, small electrical and hardware accessory categories.

Home sales suffered a drop of 11.2% as the weather had a further impact.  Sales in the gift food category were up by 6.3% in the period, with personalised Quality Street tine proving to be very popular.
