Peacocks is latest retailer to switch to biodegradable carrier bags in order to help minimise its environmental footprint.

Peacocks, who has more than 500 stores in the UK, claim that it is the ‘first affordable high street fashion chain’ to provide shoppers with the bag made from bio-degradable plastic, which are manufactured by global plastics supplier, A.Schulman.

The bags are meant to begin breaking down when they are exposed to direct sunlight or heat.

Leighton Humphreys, Peacocks finance director, said: "We are delighted to be rolling out bio-degradable bags across all of our stores as part of a wider overall strategy of reducing our environmental footprint whilst continuing to offer our customers amazing quality and value".
