Salmon, the global digital commerce consultants, have reported that this year’s Black Friday online sales will see the UK’s first £1 billion shopping day on November 27.
With a 22% predicted increase in online sales, Salmon reported this figure as there has been a rise in online shopping, and people are more aware of the deals that Black Friday has to offer.
Chief technology officer at Salmon, Glen Burson said: “Black Friday’s surge in sales in November 2014 threw traditional British pre-Christmas shopping habits into disarray. Shoppers, lured to online retailers with significantly discounted flash promotions, spent an estimated £810m online in a single day – almost 50% more than industry experts had predicted.” Adding: “Overall, we saw an average fourfold increase in traffic for Black Friday compared with other days in the Christmas Shopping period.”
Salmon also advised retailers to ‘pre-plan’ in the run-up to the event this year, advising that go through their performance last year, test their websites and ensure their operations teams are prepared.
