Online retailer Amazon has said that the year was off to a “kinetic” start, despite expenses eating into profits.
Strong sales, which were 23% up in the first quarter, helped profits jump 32% to $108 million (£64 million) but the figure would have been more impressive were it not for a 23% rise in expenses.
Amazon has expanded into video streaming services in recent times, with the launch of its Fire TV box and founder and chief executive Jeff Bezos said that the firm was struggling to keep the boxes in stock given the high demand.
