British designer Sir Jonathan Ive, who has helped design some of Apple’s most iconic products, has been promoted to chief design officer at the company.
Sir Jonathan was knighted in 2012 for his services to design.
In a memo to employees, chief executive Tim Cook said that Sir Jonathan's newly created role would cover products as well as property including Apple’s new “spaceship” campus in California, which will house approximately 12,000 workers.
"Jony is one of the most talented and accomplished designers of his generation, with an astonishing 5,000 design and utility patents to his name” Mr Cook said in the memo.
