A poultry factory which is at the centre of alleged hygiene failings is to be investigated within 24 hours according to health secretary Jeremy Hunt.
The facilities belonging to 2 Sisters Food Group at Llangefni, Anglesey, and in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, were named in a feature for the Guardian concerning alleged hygiene standard infractions including chicken carcasses coming into contact with employees boots.

A spokeswoman for Mr Hunt said a Food Standards Agency (FSA) review of the evidence found "no risk to public health".

"In addition, the FSA has agreed, at the request of the secretary of state for health, to conduct a full safety audit. They will start in the next 24 hours and report back shortly”, she added.

Three of the UK's biggest grocers - Tesco, Sainsbury's and Marks & Spencer - have launched investigations into their chicken supplies following the reports.

In other news, McDonalds has suspended sales of chicken nuggets in Hong Kong following fears that a contactor was supplying out of date meat.
