Wakefield shopping centre, Trinity Walk has reported that footfall reached record levels during the Christmas period, defying industry figures that footfall in shopping centres has declined.
Compared to November 2013 footfall at the centre rose by 3.5%, however, figures shot up in December by 12.9% which gave the shopping centre an overall rise of 5.4% for 2014 compared with 2013. The lift was credited to events such as Black Friday, late night shopping on a Thursday and the Christmas lights switch on.
Trinity Walk centre manager, Cormac Hamilton said: “Trinity Walk has recorded some great statistics over the Christmas period and is having a strong start to the year with many stores reporting highest ever figures. We made a lot of improvements to our Christmas events programme and decorations in 2014, and this obviously paid off. We are already planning an even better campaign for Christmas 2015.”
Most of the retailers at Trinity Walk enjoyed a sales growth of over 3% with The Fragrance Shop having its all-time best sales day on Black Friday.
