The founder of Cinema chain Cineworld, Stephen Wiener, is to leave the business in March after 18 years in order to enjoy the “fruits of his success”.

The move follows a merger between Cineworld and Global City Holdings N.V. (formerly Cinema City International)

Mr Wiener will be replaced by Moshe (Mooky) Greidinger, formerly CEO of Global City Holdings.
The son of a New York trucker, Mr Wiener moved to the UK in 1991 and set up the cinema chain with its first screen in an out-of-town retail park in Stevenage.

It is now the largest cinema chain in the UK by market share.
