Greene King has agreed to buy Spirit Pub Company as part of a move by the Suffolk-based brewery and pub group into food-based pubs and restaurants.

The offer, which had to be revised from an initial bid in September, values Spirit at almost £774 million. It will mean that Spirit’s Chef and Brewer and Flaming Grill chains will be added to Greene King’s stable of brands, which currently includes the Hungry Horse and Lock Fyne chains.
