London airports Heathrow and Gatwick have reported record numbers of passengers in the last year, as the debate over runway expansion continues.

The government's Airports Commission, led by Sir Howard Davies, has been exploring the options for airport expansion in the South East since 2012 and both airports have been lobbying for funding for their respective plans.

The latest passenger figures, which showed 73.4 million passengers passing through Heathrow and 38 million using Gatwick, will likely be seized upon by both sides to back up their arguments for an additional runway.
