Department store group House of Fraser has seen a “record” Christmas, with strong sales from Black Friday continuing throughout the festive season.

In the six weeks to January 3rd, like-for-like sales rose by 8% compared to the same period in 2013, with sales in the week leading up to Christmas rising 6.8% - a record for the 165-year-old company. This was led by a strong performance online, which saw a 31% rise in sales compared to its high street stores which saw a rise of only 4.2%. Black Friday’s sales were up 125% for on the previous year’s event for online and 70% up in total.

"We are delighted with our Christmas trading performance," said House of Fraser chief executive John King.
