The HS2 high speed rail line will not be linked to the international Eurostar train line, the transport secretary has confirmed, after it was branded “too expensive” to link the two termini. The project, which would have linked the planned HS2 terminus at Euston to St Pancras was estimated to cost approximately £700 million and would have involved “too many compromises”. It will mean that passengers from the north of England will be unable to travel directly to Europe.
