John Lewis Partnership has announced plans to expand internationally.

The department store chain will open outlets within 11 branches of SM Retail and Our Home department stores in the Philippines which will be between 300 and 1,000 square feet in size.

The new outlets, due to open this summer, will follow in the footsteps of John Lewis’s continuing association with South Korean chain Shinsegae, where they have an establishment of shops in seven branches, as well as the three outlets which are planned to open within the Singapore department store Robinsons.

Andy Street, managing director at John Lewis said: "The success of our partnership with Shinsegae has given us the confidence to continue our expansion in the international market."

"We are actively looking for more international partnerships, and expect to make more announcements about our international plans in the next year."

Andy Street also said that while the move would give John Lewis access to a new emerging market, their focus on physical expansion remained on Britain.

John Lewis is already present in 33 countries.
