It has been revealed that luxury sports car maker Lamborghini is to launch a sports utility vehicle (SUV), which will be built in Italy. Italy won the bid with Lamborghini, who are owned by Volkswagen, over Slovakia.

The signing which took place in Rome was attended by executives from Lamborghini and the Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi. 

The new car, the Urus SUV was originally revealed in 2012 as a concept car, however it will now go on sale in 2018, producing around 3,000 cars a year and creating 500 jobs at the company’s factory near Bologna.

Other car makers joining the SUV market include Jaguar Land Rover and Rolls-Royce.
