German low-cost supermarket Aldi has released figures for 2013, revealing a 65% jump in UK profits, driven by a 36% rise in sales across the UK and Ireland.

Buoyed by the results, the company added that it would continue to respond to price cuts from competitors with discounts of its own and added that it planned to open up to 65 stores in the UK in 2015 as part of efforts to boost its entire UK arm to 1,000 stores by 2021.
