According to the British Council of Shopping Centres, data shows that footfall fell 8.7% on August 6th, the day of the last tube strike compared to the same period the previous year.

The data has also shown that on August 5th, footfall also fell 6.4% as consumers awaited the disruption to start.

British Council of Shopping Centres director of policy and public affairs, Edward Cooke said: “The new BCSC FootFall data sheds light on the extent of the economic repercussions of the last tube strike and suggests we can expect similar interruption later this month.

“Again, strike action will disproportionately affect thousands of small retailers across London, as well as the larger retail brands.

“The retail industry will be watching closely, hoping for a resolution and avoidance of further disruption for shoppers and businesses.”

TFL have announced more tube strikes for 25th and 27h August.
