The CEO of Malaysia Airlines has said that it will become an “entirely new company”, putting behind it the two air disasters of last year.

The airline was already struggling when, in March last year, Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 disappeared with 239 passengers and crew aboard. Then four months later, flight MH17 was shot down by a suspected missile while in Ukrainian airspace, with the loss of 298 people.

Christoph Mueller, the company’s new boss who took the helm in May, has previously said that the airline was “technically bankrupt” and that he would be initiating a restructure.

This will involve a re-branding of the firm, improving technology and renegotiating contracts with its suppliers amongst other efficiency drives.
"We will leave the old Malaysian airlines behind," Christoph Mueller told the BBC.

Malaysia Airlines said that further details will be revealed on September 1st.
