It has been reported that Monarch airlines could cut as many as 1,000 jobs in a restructure aimed at cutting costs. The airline may also stop its long-haul flights and focus on the European market.

The airline has not commented officially on the potential job losses, which would be equal to one third of the airline’s total workforce, but a statement released by Monarch on Monday said: "The company has previously stated that the new management team is conducting a strategic review of the group's businesses, including in relation to their operations, ownership and financing.
That review is on-going and further announcements will be made upon its conclusion or as otherwise appropriate."

However, reports based on sources close to the company have said that flat customer demand will mean job losses.
