According to the latest data research by PwC for the Local Data Company, stores in Scotland closed at a faster rate than anywhere else in the UK. The study showed that 366 stores had closed in 2016, whereas only 254 new ones opening leading to a net drop of 3.44%. This figure far exceeds the nationwide average of 1.32%, however they also lead the nation in store openings. The average for the region stands at approximately one closure a day with areas in Scotland such as Leith in Edinburgh having a 10.53% closure rate.
