The department store group Debenhams has announced Matt Smith will be joining their team as chief financial officer.
Matt Smith, who previously held the same position at Mothercare since 2013, will be replacing Simon Herrick who left Debenhams at the start of this year after a Christmas profit warning and a row with suppliers over discounts, dubbed the ‘Santa tax’.
Debenhams did not give an exact start date for Smith, who will move “upon the satisfaction of his existing contractual obligations”.
Debenhams chief executive Michael Sharp said: “We look forward to Matt joining Debenhams and to the benefits that his extensive experience of international and multichannel retailing will bring to our business.”
