The Irish franchise of Mothercare UK, Mothercare Ireland, has announced that it is to continue trading after exiting examinership.
Mothercare Ireland, the biggest mother and child retailer in Ireland, pursued examinership in July to secure the long-term future for the company and also restructure the business.
Examinership is a rescue method where the protection of the Court is acquired to help the company survive.
David Ward, owner of Mothercare Ireland and founded in 1992 will be investing EU750,000 into the business as part of the plan.
Store operations director, Jonathan Ward, said: “It’s a great sense of relief and we’re just looking to the future now,” adding “I think we’ve got a cost base that the business can grow on again now. Everything we were doing was about managing costs effectively and the one cost we couldn’t manage was our rents so we’ve been able to reduce that and along with the fresh investment in the business we’ll be able to grow the business.”
Mothercare Ireland will continue trading at 15 stores, however it has confirmed that three stores have now closed.
